Update as of October 16, 2025: The dedication ceremony for Allochory, the public art sculpture recently installed on the exterior of City Hall, scheduled for Monday, October 20, has been cancelled. A new date will be announced soon.
The City of Las Cruces Quality of Life Department, Las Cruces Public Art program, and the City Art Board invite the community to the dedication ceremony of Allochory, the public art sculpture recently installed on the exterior of City Hall.
The ceremony will be from 11:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. Monday, October 20 at City Hall, 700 N. Main St.
Allochory was created by artist Jamie Spinello. The artwork was inspired by the pods of the red yucca plant, which grows in the landscape around the sculpture, in an abstract depiction made from aluminum panels.
Funding for the sculpture was provided by New Mexico Arts “Art In Public Places” (AIPP) program. Allochory is one of six selections chosen from the AIPP catalog by a committee consisting of staff, City Art board members, and a community representative, for installation at City Hall.
