Community meetings will soon begin to gather input from Las Cruces residents about potential capital improvements projects that can be funded with Gross Receipts Tax.
Voters approved a 0.325 percent GRT increase in the November 2024 election to be used for public safety, parks, streets and other critical infrastructure. City Council is seeking public input so they can direct how these funds will be used in the coming years.
Public meetings will be held at 6 p.m. on the following dates and locations:
• District 1- September 30- Branigan Library, Roadrunner Room, 200 E. Picacho Ave.
• District 2- October 1- Frank O’Brien Papen Center, 304 Bell Ave.
• District 3- October 2- Munson Senior Center, 975 S. Mesquite St.
• District 4- October 7- MacArthur Elementary School, 655 4th St.
• District 5- October 8- Monte Vista Elementary School, 4915 Peachtree Hills Rd.
• District 6- October 9- Doña Ana Community College, East Mesa Campus, 2800 N. Sonoma Ranch Blvd.
These meetings are intended to gather input and gauge public interest in capital projects, or the continuation of capital projects, that can be funded by the 2024 GRT Capital Improvements Fund. Determining what new projects are wanted and needed by City residents is the primary reason for these meetings.
Following the meetings, City staff will share the information gathered to City Council at a Work Session on October 27. City Council will adopt a resolution directing spending later in the year.
