The City of Las Cruces is beginning work on an update to its Downtown Master Plan, the guiding framework for how the city’s central district grows and evolves. First adopted in the early 2000s and last updated in 2016, the plan has shaped much of downtown’s revitalization over the past decade. This year’s effort will build on that foundation, refining strategies based on what has changed, what’s working well, and where opportunities remain.
From October 20–24, the City and its planning consultant, PlaceMakers, will host a week-long public planning workshop. The workshop will bring together residents, business owners, civic organizations, and City staff for a series of focused meetings and design sessions aimed at updating the Downtown Master Plan.
“This update isn’t about starting over,” said Chris Faivre, Director, Community Development Director. “It’s about fine-tuning what we’ve already achieved and ensuring downtown continues to reflect the needs and character of Las Cruces.”
Community Participation Opportunities
Throughout the week, the planning team will meet with a variety of stakeholder groups— from local businesses and neighborhood associations to community partnerships and boards — to gather firsthand insight into current conditions and future priorities.
In addition, three public meetings will be held at Amador Live, 302 South Main Street, to offer residents a chance to learn about the process, share their ideas, and see how feedback shapes the evolving plan.
