Two vehicles that collided and landed on a sidewalk.

Las Cruces police are continuing to investigate a four-vehicle crash that resulted in critical injuries to two pedestrians and non-life-threatening injuries to five motorists.

The crash occurred shortly after 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2026, at the intersection of Lohman Avenue and Walton Boulevard.

Traffic investigators learned that a black Hyundai Palisade was traveling east on Lohman Avenue when its 56-year-old driver suffered some type of medical episode that caused her to temporarily lose consciousness. Her vehicle was in a middle lane and veered left where it sideswiped a GMC Sierra and then a Toyota sedan.

The Palisade continued east, veered right and drove through the intersection diagonally where it crashed into a Chevrolet Silverado that was stopped in a northbound lane, about to enter onto eastbound Lohman. Both vehicles left the roadway, jumped a curb and struck the pedestrians who were on a sidewalk.

The two pedestrians, men ages 40 and 48, suffered critical injuries and were transported to Mountainview Regional Medical Center. The 48-year-old man was subsequently airlifted to University Medical Center of El Paso.

The 56-year-old woman driving the Palisade was alert and able to speak with first responders prior to being transported to an area hospital.

A Las Cruces police service aide and Las Cruces firefighters played integral roles during the incident. The PSA performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the 48-year-old victim and was part of the first responder team that helped him regain a pulse. Firefighters tended to seven patients on scene, provided lifesaving care to the critically injured and initial attention for all patients. Firefighters oversaw the transportation of four victims to area hospitals.

The multi-vehicle crash is still under investigation. No charges have been filed.

A portion of eastbound Lohman Avenue, from Walnut Street to Walton Boulevard, was temporarily closed while first responders completed their work and cleared the scene.
