The City of Las Cruces is kicking off a project to inventory the condition of sidewalks maintained by the City. To accomplish this, the City retained the services of Roadway Asset Services, LLC (RAS) based out of Austin, TX. RAS is a nationwide firm and provides professional asset management and mobile data collection services to local and state government agencies.
RAS operates a fleet of sophisticated data collection e-bikes equipped with an array of precision instrumentation and data collection equipment that helps state and local transportation agencies inventory and manage transportation infrastructure, facilities, and assets. Specifically, the e-bikes possess digital cameras and sensors that will collect data on sidewalks maintained by the City. This data will be used to assess sidewalk conditions and update the City’s sidewalk inventory. In order to collect all relevant data, the e-bikes will be travelling on all sidewalks maintained by the City. In order to ensure the highest quality of data and imagery, the e-bikes will only collect data during daylight hours beginning March 9 and continuing through approximately June. If residents have any questions or need additional information regarding the vehicles, the project, or the process; they may contact the project manager, Monica Perez Meza at moperez@clcstaging.lascruces.gov.
