Within the Land of the People: Shimba Tainin kau natheure wein – Tierra Sagrada – Ndende bì Ke’ya – Naf’ole atsihem – Nde benah – Ndee Bikáá’ exhibit at the Branigan Cultural Center, a secondary, rotating gallery allows each Indigenous group to go deeper into their unique stories. From September 6 – November 29, 2025, we feature the Ysleta del Sur Pueblo. The opening reception for the Ysleta del Sur Pueblo exhibit takes place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 20, 2025. Members of the tribe will be present and there will be events during the reception.
Located south of downtown El Paso, Texas, the Ysleta del Sur Pueblo is one of only three federally recognized tribes in Texas and the only pueblo in the state. Established in 1682, the Pueblo’s culture continues to flourish as each generation proudly embraces its history and moves into the future. We invite you to discover more about the Ysleta del Sur Pueblo’s rich history, culture, and ceremonies. Additionally, you can learn about their tribal government and the social and economic services they offer that support tribal members and enrich the greater El Paso community. Shimba Tainin kau natheure wein is the Tiwa language interpretation of “Land of the People.”
A secondary, rotating gallery will change every 12 weeks, which allows each Indigenous group to go deeper into their own unique stories, traditions, and perspectives. The exhibit sequence is as follows:
September 6 –November 29, 2025: Ysleta del Sur Pueblo
December 20, 2025 – March 14, 2026: Pueblo of Tortugas
