Chief Jeremy Story will be guest speaker during the Las Cruces Police Department’s Feb. 12 Bridging the Badge livestream.

“Public Safety Must be a Priority” is the topic of the Feb. 12 livestream. Story will speak about proposed remedies that, if approved during the 2025 New Mexico legislative session, would help fill some of the gaps that currently prevent law enforcement and the judicial system from working effectively.

“New Mexico ranks first in crime and Las Cruces has felt the pain of rising crime rates,” said Story. “Now is the time to address some of the most urgent public safety challenges.”

Story shared his concerns and recommended legislation during a Town Hall meeting held Jan. 23. The Town Hall meeting can be viewed on the City’s YouTube channel.

The New Mexico legislature is in a 60-day session that ends March 22. The final day for lawmakers to introduce legislation is Feb. 20.

The Bridging the Badge livestream begins at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2025, and can be viewed on the Las Cruces Police Department’s Facebook page and on the City of Las Cruces’ YouTube channel.

Bridging the Badge programs are intended to promote understanding, collaboration, and informed dialogue on topics important to residents of Las Cruces. Each livestream is anticipated to last about one hour.
