The Las Cruces Police Department continues to seek the public’s help identifying the person or persons responsible for the shooting death of 52-year-old Benjamin Uribe in July 2024.

Crime Stoppers of Las Cruces-Doña Ana County is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information that leads to identifying the suspect or suspects.

About 2 p.m. on July 17, 2024, officers responded to the report of a vehicle that crashed on the 900 block of south Melendres Street in Las Cruces. Police learned the vehicle rolled through multiple yards before coming to a stop with the driver, Benjamin Uribe, trapped inside.

Upon investigation, it was determined that Uribe had been shot prior to the crash. Uribe died as a result of his injuries.

Detectives believe that a silver or gray four-door sedan of unknown make and model, may have been used by the suspect or suspects. Images of the vehicle were captured by a surveillance camera.

Anyone with information related to this incident is asked to contact Las Cruces police at (575) 526-0795.

Anonymous tips can be provided by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477. Tips can also be sent through the Las Cruces Crime Stoppers app, “P3 TIPS.” The app is available through the App Store on most devices.
