Please Do Not Flush Wipes

Las Cruces Utilities Water Collections has been noticing a buildup of flushed wipes at some of their lift stations. Wipes of all kinds should be thrown in the trash and not flushed down a toilet even though packaging may indicate they are “flushable.” Wipes can cause sewage backups in your home, your neighbor’s homes and they can clog City wastewater facilities. LCU will be leaving door hangers at homes in the neighborhoods of the lift stations that are being clogged to remind residents “Please Do Not Flush Wipes of Any Kind.”

While the door hangers will be placed at homes in neighborhoods where lift stations are affected, this is a good opportunity to remind all Las Cruces residents that flushing wipes can have an adverse effect on wastewater systems and facilities.
