Artist Statement: Andrew Williams (b. 1988 – Dallas, Texas) (NMSU MFA candidate ’27) is a lens based artist currently located in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico. His photography of contemporary America is an interpretation of how U.S culture interacts with the natural environment. His work strives to transform the ways in which we view our relation to nature by commenting on our relationships with one another. While his roots in photography stem from a documentary approach, Andrew’s vision is apparent throughout various genres. Working in the commercial photography world from 2010-2024, Andrew’s background as a digital technician has informed how calibration, lighting, and problem solving focus on a particular subject for a desired final output. Process and technique are important to Andrew’s practice. The use of medium/large format cameras and alternative processes in his work emphasize a meditative method, deepening the idea of silence and calmness to connect to his subjects.
Art Stop Bus Shelter Public Art Exhibit was created by the City Art Board for the purpose of making art more accessible to community members and enhancing the everyday experience of our public spaces.
