Two oryx in the desert

Title: Oryx

Artist: Nirmal Khandan

Future Bus Shelter Location: Mountain View Regional Hospital (Pending installation)

Description: Digital capture of wild Oryx in New Mexico

Artist Statement: Originally from Sri Lanka, Khandan moved to Las Cruces in 1989 with his wife Mary and two sons, to take a faculty position at New Mexico State University. Since then he has made Las Cruces his home. Khandan’s interest in photography dates back to his high school days when he was assisting the school’s librarian in reshelving returned books on photography. The librarian, a serious photographer himself, got Khandan started. Khandan did not study photography formally, but through self-education he developed his skills from films, slides, to digital. Khandan gathers inspiration from photography magazines and more recently from dedicated websites. Having learned photography by studying photographs by experts, he has developed his passion and skills for bird/wildlife/nature photography.
