Title: Sunrise Journey
Artist: Alessandra Quiroz
Future Bus Shelter Location: Hadley Ave & Valley Dr (Pending installation)
Description: This piece of artwork was heavily inspired by the color palette of New Mexico’s sunrise and creative forms of shape language seen throughout our city. However, my biggest draw of inspiration was the creativity and humor brought about by my own dog who fuels much of myself and my family’s joy through his contagious energy. I wanted this piece to evoke a sense of laughter and peace from its concept and color palette so that others may find the same feeling of joy that I had while creating this piece.
Artist Statement: My body of work draws inspiration from the warm pastel hues of the sunrise, painting the mountains being traversed by a vehicle often tied to childlike whimsy, with an animal that illustrates joy and companionship. To bring this concept to life, I incorporated various techniques of shape and color language to create the feeling of peace and serene nature that is brought about by each morning’s sunrise. To continue, the train was the chosen mode of transportation for the animals as it is often seen as an incredible form of machinery, whether through childlike wonder or everyday eyes. Finally, the decision to illustrate dogs as the animal on the go originated from their connection to over joyous emotion and contagious humor that they bring into our lives.
Art Stop Bus Shelter Public Art Exhibit was created by the City Art Board for the purpose of making art more accessible to community members and enhancing the everyday experience of our public spaces.
