Fire Station 9 Art Installation

GO Bond – Las Cruces Fire Station #9 Public Art Project
Budget: $100,000

Project Intent

General:

The City of Las Cruces Public Art program (LCPA) has commissioned an artist to create a site-specific outdoor art piece to promote the forthcoming Fire Station #9. The criteria for the art piece is that it be evocative of the history and ethos of the local firefighting community, adds identity to the fire station and neighborhood, serves as a focal point of the fire station, and is visible from several vantage points. It may be inspired by an original Las Cruces 1915 pumper that will be displayed in the fire station lobby.  The art piece will be prominently installed in front of the new Fire Station facility.

Las Cruces Fire Station #9 Site Information

Fire Station #9 will be built on the corner of Central Ave. and Sonoma Ranch Blvd. in Las Cruces, New Mexico. This is a newly constructed fire station that will primarily serve the community in City Council District 5. The fire station location is near Monte Vista Elementary School and Mesa Middle School. Red Hawk golf course sits adjacent to the area.
