The personnel who staff the Front Station Office at the Las Cruces Police Department assist you with filing police reports and can help answer most questions from the public. Front Station personnel can also summon an officer to the lobby in the event of an emergency. Front Station personnel can be reached (575) 528-4128.

(Harassing/Annoying Phone Calls, Lost Property, Theft/Larceny with No Evidence or Known Suspect and Vandalism)

Pursuant to the Las Cruces Police Department’s goal of providing its citizens with access to public records in a timely manner, the Las Cruces Police Department Records Section provides public access to the following commonly requested records:
  • Local History Inquiry
  • Bicycle Registration
  • Vehicle Release
Neither the Las Cruces Police Department nor the Records Section are the designated records custodian for the City of Las Cruces. As such, should you wish to make a formal Inspection of Public Records Act (“IPRA”) request, or if you seek to review any public records not mentioned above, please contact the City Clerk’s Office located at 700 N. Main Street, Las Cruces, NM 88001, Phone: (575) 541-2112 or at this link.

Pursuant to the Las Cruces Police Department’s goal of providing its citizens with access to public records in a timely manner, the Las Cruces Police Department Records Section has contracted with LexisNexis to provide the public convenient access to accident reports.

*Please note, according to New Mexico Statutes Annotated (“NMSA”) Section 14-2A-1, “No attorney, health care provider or their agents shall inspect, copy or use police reports or information obtained from police reports for the purpose of the solicitation of victims or the solicitation of the relatives of victims of reported crimes or accidents.”

Vehicle release forms for vehicles that have been impounded (not seized) may be released to the registered owner or person to whom Power of Attorney has been granted by the registered owner. Persons who wish to receive a vehicle release form must present a government-issued picture identification card at the time of their request. Vehicle release forms can be requested from the Records window at the Las Cruces Police Department.

Local History Inquiries

Local history inquiries are an activity report that lists incidents with the Las Cruces Police Department, this services only provides incidents where the individual is listed within our records management system.  The charge for this service is $3.00 per request and can be requested at the Records counter.  Requests for this service must be made in person with a government-issued identification card, or by mail with the requestor’s notarized signature.

FBI Identity History Summary for a National Background Check

The FBI can provide individuals with an Identity History Summary, often referred to as a criminal history or “rap sheet” listing certain information taken from fingerprint submissions kept by the FBI and related to arrests and, in some instances, federal employment, naturalization, or military service, please visit edo.cjis.gov.

For a nominal fee Records also provides bicycle licensing.

LCPD’s Records Division classifies and processes reports utilizing Uniform Crime Reporting that is used for monthly and yearly crime stats and reports for the FBI, state departments, city personnel, and department staff.

Do you need to claim property from the Las Cruces Police Department Property and Evidence Section? In order to claim your property, you must bring a government-issued picture identification card. It is also helpful if you bring your case number, police report or notification letter to claim your property. LCPD can release property to the property owner only unless the owner has executed a Power of Attorney to allow someone else to retrieve their property.

Property can be claimed Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The Evidence/Property room is located at LCPD headquarters at:

The Records Section annually compiles the Las Cruces Police Department’s crime statistics into a report. The Annual Crime Statistics feature demographics of Las Cruces, crime stats, clearance rates, calls for service, and arrest and traffic totals amongst other information.
